What is Ackerman Tutoring?

Ackerman Tutoring provides families with in-home private 1 on 1 or small group tutoring. As the owner and founder of Ackerman Tutoring, I personally provide in-home tutoring sessions.

 

My Focus on Primary, Elementary, and Intermediate Grades (Grades 1-8)

Having taught and/or tutored every grade from 1-8, my team of tutors and I are familiar with the Ontario Curriculum in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. I can help your child with homework, get caught up with current topics of study, and even get ahead so that your child is knowledgeable and confident in the classroom.

My Qualifications

I am a Certified Ontario Teacher (Ontario College of Teacher # 213793) with over 15 years of experience in the classroom. I frequently appear on national television, on the radio and in the news as an education expert. I have a Reading Specialist and my Special Education training course.

 

I Can Consult Your Child’s Classroom Teacher

One of the best ways to ensure your child’s success in school is by working in partnership with his or her teacher. By doing so, we will ensure that your child’s tutoring sessions will be relevant to what your child is learning in class. Some parents wish to keep tutoring separate from the classroom. I respect both decisions but highly recommend that there is communication between our tutors and your child’s teacher. The choice is yours.

I believe that the more enyoyable the tutoring sessions are, the more your child will look forward to learning. Sometimes, work may not be fun for your child, but when I can do so, we will bring resources that will make learning fun and interesting.

Most of the big, franchised learning centres are, in fact, headquartered in the United States. While they may have many franchised locations in Ontario, their cookie cutter programs are designed in the USA, primarily for that audience, and certainly without the Ontario curriculum in mind. We truly understand the unique demands on the students of Ontario and the challenges facing the Ontario Education System. The benefit to my students quickly becomes very apparent. Instead of producing my own program, I focus on the learning expectations and goals that are expected in the classroom as well as YOUR child’s specific needs.

Upon our initial phone conversation, I will assess your child’s strengths and needs. I will do so by evaluating your child’s report cards, behaviours, motivation, schedule, assessments, and academic skills when we talk on the phone.

A decision to invest in tutoring for your child is usually taken only after much consideration. Learning centre total program costs can be greater than that of Ackerman Tutoring. These extra costs pay mostly for heavy TV advertising, franchise fees and overhead associated with maintaining a physical centre. With my tutoring services, there are no hidden or extra costs. I offer a choice of individual or group tutoring at a set rate.
